Here are a few tips and a few samples...

These days wedding invitations are usually sent out at least 8 - 6 weeks allowing plenty of time especially with today's busy social calendar!! ( Depending on the time of year and location of your wedding you may need to send out your invitations 10 week before your wedding or more).

It is always a good idea to keep a list of your guests, this way you can tick off your RSVP's when they arrive.

If you are planning to get married in a area where your guests may not be familiar with it is a good idea to include directions and a map. If you are considering including a map and a gift registry card along with your invitations

it is also a good idea to check with Australia post to see if you require further postage, this will avoid any invites going missing due to the incorrect postage!!

One invite is sent to each family unless there has been a divorce in the family.

Children over the age of 16 should also receive their own invitations.

Another important thing to consider is to add on your invitation what type of dress you would like you guests to wear: black tie, formal, semi formal, smart casual, this will all depend on the style of wedding you are having as well as the location of your church and reception venue.
